Sugo, Bexley North – SMH Good Food app listing
Enhance your pasta with fried chicken cutlets at this Italian-American eatery from the Self Raised team.
Customers line up for up to 90 minutes for a table at Sugo, a casual Italian-American eatery from the hospitality team behind the neighboring pizzeria my mother’s cousin and cafe-bakery Self Grown Snack Shoppe.
Led by head chef Anmol Karki, the menu starts with simple snacks: thick-cut slices of sourdough bread from the Self Raised bakery, mozzarella carrozza (bread slices stuffed with cheese and fried) and Wagyu bresaola with spicy giardiniera (pickled vegetables). The main event is pasta; It comes in nine options, each served alongside a scoop of stracciatella cheese or a chicken cutlet (classic, crumbled, or with ‘nodka’ sauce and Parmesan).
Like its sister venues, Sugo is alcohol-free. Instead of wine, you can choose from Fabio Italian sodas produced in Melbourne at the restaurant.
Self-Taught pastry chef Sarah Ghantous has created a baked cheesecake with banana cream for dessert, and there are seasonal scoops and sundaes using ice cream from Newtown gelateria Mapo.
