The Supreme Court on Monday (April 13, 2026) expressed shock at the impunity of sand miners operating in the sensitive Chambal reserve zone for acts such as killing a forest guard in Madhya Pradesh and digging the foundation of pillars of a bridge in the area connecting the State to Rajasthan.
The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said that the course of events and the lack of action against the miners revealed the failure or connivance of the Madhya Pradesh government in criminal activities.
