On Monday, the Supreme Court refused to make a temporary stay in the publishing the draft of election rollers by the Indian Election Commission (ECI) after the special intensive revision (secret) in Bihar. A bench of Bagchi Bagchi, Kant and Joymalia, observed that the petitions did not want temporary relief during the first hearing, and that the issue would be interpreted once and for everyone. Due to the lack of time, justice postponed the hearing led by Kant Kant and determined that the last hearing program would be determined on 29 July.
At a short hearing, the APEX Court stressed that ECI should consider AADHAAR cards and election photo ID cards (EPIC) for voter verification.
The senior defender of the ECI, Raqesh Dwivededi, provided reservations about the documents, as well as many counterfeit ration cards were given: “In the case of ration cards, we can say that they can easily be beaten, but we can say that some of the Aadhaar and voter cards are sacred and epic.”
Before the Supreme Court, a few petitions were submitted to the 26th June ECI directing Sir’s decision, claiming that “arbitrary” and “without the necessary process” voters may disrupt their lakhs, and disrupt free and fair elections and democracy. The petition holders questioned the timing and legality of the revision exercise, arguing that the survey organ started a comprehensive revision process without sufficient protection or public clarity.
At an earlier hearing, the APEX court advised ECI to accept AADHAAR cards, ration cards, or voter identity cards published earlier as a valid identity for selection rolls.
When the Supreme Court was adopted on July 10, he summarized three basic issues to be discussed at the hearing: EC’s legal authority to make a special revision, the validity of procedures and the discretion timing of the exercise, the proximity to an important state selection.
According to the secret program published by the questionnaire, each voter who sends the numbering form – with supportive documents or without supporting will be included in the draft election roller to be published on August 1. Voters who do not present their forms shall make a request in the foreseen form and will be entitled to take part in the last roll with the necessary declaration.
In a declaration opened in front of the Supreme Court, “Therefore, any person excluded from the draft roll has another opportunity by sending the form with the necessary declarations and documents. This request period will remain open for 31 days following the publication of the draft roll until 1 September 2025.” He said.
After the completion of the entire process, the last roll will be published on September 30th. ECI also stated that even after the final roll was published, new voters could be recorded until the deadline to nominate for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
