Surat farmer scales up organic fertiliser production amid push for import substitution

A Surat-based farmer has initiated industrial-scale production of organic fertilizer ‘Ghanjeevamrut’ as part of efforts to reduce India’s dependence on imported chemical inputs as the State intensifies its efforts towards natural farming.

Kamlesh Patel, a farmer from Ambheti village of Palsana taluka, has expanded the production of Ghanjeevamrut, positioning it as a viable alternative to chemical fertilisers. His initiative comes at a time when demand for organic inputs is rising in Gujarat, where eight lakh farmers have adopted natural farming practices covering over 5.5 lakh hectares.
