Surprise as star chef quits Sir David Beckham’s favourite eaterie

It offers essentials such as caviar rosti for £35, ribeye steak (for two) for £160 and a wine list including chardonnay [2015 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, Coche Dury] Priced at just under £10,000, it was only a matter of time before Notting Hill’s restaurant sensation received a Michelin star.
It also quickly secured the patronage of locals including Sir David and Lady Beckham, as well as pop star Rita Ora and former Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker.
So, is everything okay at Dorian, which describes itself as a bistro, although the intimacy and drum and bass rhythm of the 35 venue may remind some patrons of a nightclub?
I ask this because Max Coen, the restaurant’s wonderfully creative chef, has suddenly announced his departure; The announcement has so far been met with silence from Dorian’s usually enthusiastic owner, Australian entrepreneur Chris D’Sylva. If that wasn’t troubling enough for the Beckhams and their pals, the chef (full name Max Creagh Coen) is said to be so aggrieved by the way things are going that he’s consulting lawyers.

“He and D’Sylva had a huge falling out,” says a friend, adding that Coen was aggrieved because he couldn’t cash out his shares in the business.
There is not the slightest hint of acidity in the farewell note.
‘I’m sorry to be leaving the team and the venue for now,’ he says. ‘I poured my heart and soul into Dorian and left with wonderful memories.
‘But now is the time for my personal and professional development. I wish everyone at Dorian the best and look forward to seeing his legacy live on.’
Explaining that he will be 30 at the end of the year and about to get married, Max says, “There are a lot of trips I want to do.”
The kind of travel that puts a reasonable distance between him and D’Sylva (51)?
Neither responded to requests for comment last night.
Actor Bill Nighy remembers what pushed him to finally give up biting his nails. ‘I was making a movie with Rachel Weisz and I needed to have a little bit of a romantic relationship with her,’ he explains.
Rachel Weisz and Bill Nighy starred together in the 2011 political thriller Page Eight, which prompted her to quit biting her nails.
‘I was so embarrassed about my nails that I asked the make-up artist, ‘What can we do?’ I said. ‘We’ll give manicures to what’s left of them,’ he said. They put some polish on. ‘I was so proud of them.’
‘Then someone suggested this to me,’ adds Bill, 76, cheerfully. ‘I continue to get manicures and now I get pedicures.’ Fancy!
Why does Pixie’s model husband sleep on the floor?
Pop star Pixie Lott has thrown her model husband Oliver Cheshire out of their marital bed.
The 35-year-old singer, who married Ollie, 38, four years ago, blames the demands of motherhood. In the photo taken at Wimbledon this week, the couple has two unnamed sons, two Bert and an eight-month-old. ‘I co-sleep with the youngest and I’m still breastfeeding,’ explains Pixie. ‘So Ollie sleeps alone on the mattress on the floor.’
The singer has been in a relationship with Ollie since 2010.

Angela Rayner, who quit as housing secretary after failing to pay enough stamp duty on her £800,000 flat in Hove, East Sussex, raised eyebrows last month when it was reported she would be addressing a property industry event. His speech didn’t come cheap.

Charlie Higson, who wrote the Young Bond book series and a James Bond novel for adults, has revealed that one of his proposals shocked and confused the family of 007 creator Ian Fleming.
‘They are members of the Fleming family who run the property,’ says Higson. ‘They knew Ian very well, so it was really nice. They only had minor suggestions for things to change.
‘In my first draft I gave Bond a dog. I thought, ‘You know it’s an adventure, he must have a dog.’
They said ‘No’. Ian hated dogs.’ That’s why I had to shoot the dog!’
