Bear Grylls previews new Fox show and reveals how Hollywood stars face survival tests
The new season of ‘Bear Grylls is Running Wild’ will premiere on Fox tonight and will push Hollywood’s biggest stars to their limits. Survival expert Bear Grylls details how celebrities including Matthew McConaughey, Michelle Monaghan and Tiffany Haddish have been challenged by nature’s harshest environments. In this ninth season, he explains that the unique experience helped them open up and created a compelling television series.

Bear Grylls, one of the world’s best-known survival experts, traded the rugged cliffs of Norway for the bright lights of the “Fox & Friends” studio, at least briefly this week.
Joining host Brian Kilmeade, Grylls discussed the ninth season of his hit show “Running Wild,” which will premiere on FOX.
While most talk shows feature celebrities sitting on the couch to promote their latest projects, Grylls’ approach is a little more instinctive.

The new season of his show features an impressive cast, including Matthew McConaughey, whom Grylls took to a glacier in Norway.
Kilmeade joked about Grylls’ casual appearance. However, the survivor quickly noted that his mother often called him the sloppy person in the room.

But to Grylls, the suit is a uniform for a job that bridges the gap between high-class glamor and robust human experience.
“The wild never judges,” Grylls said on “Fox & Friends.”

“I’ve done this my whole life. … My dad was a former Marine, he taught me a lot of these things. … This has been my world.”
When asked why some of the most successful people in the world would willingly subject themselves to the harsh conditions seen in the show’s trailers (like eating snakes or boiling water to avoid disease), Grylls said that for these stars, the appeal is about authenticity.

“This is different [from] Grylls said it’s “a chat show where you sit on the couch and there’s a three-minute performance telling a funny story.”

“Nature does my job for me. Like I said, it opens people up. I think a lot of these stars want the experience that the wilderness can give you.”

The pair reviewed a clip in which McConaughey learns the hard way that even “pristine” Norwegian water must be boiled to avoid a mid-trip disaster.

Reflecting on his nine seasons taking world leaders and icons into the bush, Grylls shared his biggest takeaway.

“Everyone is actually an ordinary person,” he said. “I admire how they step out of their comfort zones. And this becomes a discipline; successful people achieve the difficult.”
