A fraud expert provided a creepy warning to drivers after an increase in gas station fraudsters. Strailer devices, which are frequently hidden in card readers in unmanned pumps, are deployed to increase the details of debt and credit card – unaware of the victims until they are too late.
Paul Hampson is CEO of fraud and scam rescue company CEL LawyersHe points out that the contactless and chip and pin fraud can withdraw money from accounts with any credit deposit facility on the card and immerse many of them into financial difficulties.
“These frauds have been designed to be almost unidentified,” he said. “Criminals set up fake card nests or hidden chips that review your details as soon as you put your card.
Gas stations offer excellent targets, because drivers are often scattered and hurry – especially at night or in isolated places.
“The most common tactic is to fit into a fake façade on a fake façade or place a small device into the nest.”
“Some of them will hide even miniature cameras to record your pin. These devices can be installed and removed in a short period of time.”
Drivers are required to pay extra attention to unattended gasoline pumps, especially in the 24/7 open ones. Although the majority of severe stripping cases have been reported abroad, Mr. Hampson warns that similar tactics have been employed in the UK – usually not determined until your account is destroyed.

“If something seems suspicious, don’t take risks, Hamp Hampson said. “Go in and pay it on the counter instead.”
Also, it recommends the protection of the keypad when entering your pin – even if there is no one else around. “Many victims are ashamed to be caught, but these devices are sophisticated and difficult to detect,” he said. “The error lies with scammers – not you.”
If you suspect that you are lubricated, immediately inform your bank and check if there is a suspicious activity. “Be fast,” Mr. Hampson said.
“The sooner you mark it, the easier it is to freeze your card and limit the damage.”
He also called on gasoline retailers to control card machines more frequently and increase security in unattended pumps.
“Fast control can give you hundreds of savings,” he added. “Drivers need to remain awake.”
