General Services Organization (GSO), Kalpakkam, a unit of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), organized a Swachhata Rath Yatra and bicycle rally on Thursday.
The incident moved from Kalpakkam District to Five Rathas in Mamallapuram. The Rath Yatra was flagged off by Sreekumar G. Pillai, Director, GSO and IGCAR, and Sanjay A. Lathkar, Additional Director General (Security), DAE. The specially converted “Swachhata Rath” (a bus housing exhibits) featured innovative miniatures showcasing DAE-developed technologies in action: the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR) model demonstrating clean nuclear energy, the Hybrid Granulated Batch Reactor (hgSBR), a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system for efficient, modern purification, according to an official statement.
Waste to wealth initiatives spearheaded by DAE and actively implemented in Kalpakkam and Anupuram Districts were also showcased. The bike rally complemented the Yatra, enabling participants to take part in cleanliness and sanitation commitments along with special assistance to local school children. “The event underlined GSO’s commitment to Swachhata Pakhwada by blending public awareness with the contributions of atomic research to environmental stewardship,” he said.
