Sydney man, 74, fighting for life after suspected random assault in Yennora

A 74-year-old man suffered life-threatening head injuries after what police believe was a random attack during an early morning walk in Sydney’s west.
Police said the man walked for about 30 minutes in Yennora on Saturday morning and was later found injured in Orchardleigh Street at around 4.40am.
When one of the citizens found him on the side of the road, he reported the situation to the authorities.
Due to his serious injuries, the man was unable to speak to police at the scene.
Paramedics treated him before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
Acting Fairfield City Police Area Commander Brenton Sommerville said the man “appeared to be the victim of an assault.”
“We are asking members of the public that anyone who saw or heard anything to contact police,” Mr Sommerville said.
“We know the man was taking his usual morning walk in the area.
“He was outside for approximately 30 minutes before the incident.”

Police believed the injuries were consistent with an assault and were investigating the attack at random.
The 74-year-old man underwent surgery for a head injury and remains in critical but stable condition.
