Sydney man charged over alleged public shooting plot after tactical police storm house
A 24-year-old man will appear in court on Tuesday accused of planning a shooting rampage in a public place in Sydney’s south-west, two days after heavily armed tactical police raided his Fairfield West home where he was later arrested.
Regan Yaw Lee was charged at Cabramatta Police Station on Monday with directing the activities of a criminal group and recruiting others for criminal activity, after an investigation into an alleged planned public shooting began this month.
This follows a dramatic search warrant by tactical police at a home on Isis Street in Fairfield West, where residents were asked to leave the address with their hands on their heads.
Before the raid began, a drone flew over the address and police teams searched among the vehicles parked on the road.
Officers dressed in camouflage and carrying rifles, pistols and riot shields raided the home, allegedly seizing illegal drugs and a cellphone, before arresting Lee at the home on Monday night.
His arrest came hours after a second house on Greenacre Kent Road was raided after police seized another phone. Police cars blocked off part of the street as heavily armed tactical police raided the property.
Lee was charged with knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group, recruiting others to engage in criminal activity, participating in criminal activity, two counts of unauthorized possession of a handgun, using a defaced firearm, supplying, purchasing, using a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to commit a crime.
He will also face three counts of supplying a prohibited drug in excess of an indictable quantity and two counts of supplying a small quantity of the drug. The investigation into the attack continues.
