Sydney Sweeney lost 30+ pounds in 7 weeks after ‘Christy’ boxing movie

Sydney Sweeney has revealed how she lost more than 30 pounds in seven weeks after filming her new movie “Christy.”
The 28-year-old actress has undergone a dramatic physical transformation and undergone intense training to portray legendary boxer Christy Martin in the biographical sports drama. But she later had a brief comeback to shed the excess weight before filming her upcoming movie “The Housemaid” and the third season of her hit HBO series “Euphoria.”
During a recent interview people magazine, Sweeney talked about how he quickly lost weight.

“I had to be really hard on myself,” he said.

“It was really hard to get all the weight on while I was training. I was eating so much food, everything you can imagine,” Sweeney continued. “And then I was cutting down on protein shake after protein shake and taking too much creatine, which was causing bloating.”
The “White Lotus” star said she “stopped all that” to achieve the leaner physique needed for the two roles.
“When you stop exercising and drink all the protein shakes, you lose muscle very quickly,” Sweeney said. “That’s the first thing to do before you get fat. So within two weeks I was down.”

Sweeney shared that he sticks to a “super clean” diet and does “lots of cardio” in the limited window before projects begin production.
The actress said her intense preparations for “Christy” may have been the “only” time she underwent a major physical transformation for a role.
But he said he was lucky that his “metabolism was working really well.”

While Sweeney explained that losing weight quickly wasn’t “super easy,” she noted that she “has been a very active person her whole life.”

“It’s like I was a super active kid and always just kind of stayed active and always had a good metabolism,” Sweeney added. “I can gain weight, but I can also lose weight.”

“I had trained for two or three months before [filming]. I had a boxing trainer,” he said in a video shared on social media during the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). “I had weight trainers, I had nutritionists. I trained every day, three times a day. Later, while I was shooting, I also received training.”
“Too much Chick-fil-A — too much,” the “Anyone But You” star agreed. “Lots of Smucker’s, lots of milkshakes, lots of protein shakes.”

“But being able to fully embody such a strong woman was incredible,” she added. “I felt even stronger. It was truly inspiring.”

“Christy” tells the story of Martin, nicknamed “The Coal Miner’s Daughter,” as she rose from small-town West Virginia to become one of the most well-known female boxers of the 1990s.

The film also explores Martin’s troubled relationship with her boxing trainer and husband Jim Martin (Ben Foster). Their marriage involved codependency, drug use, financial scandal, and physical and psychological violence. Martin’s story is also the story of Martin’s survival after he narrowly escaped after Jim attempted to kill him in 2010.
“Christy” was released in theaters on November 7. “The Housemaid”, starring Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, will be released in theaters on December 19. The third season of “Euphoria” is expected to be released in spring 2026.
