Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been released under investigation after being arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, Thames Valley Police said. He was caught leaving a police station shortly before 7pm this evening, nearly 11 hours after his arrest at Wood Farm in Sandringham.
A black Range Rover arrived at Aylsham police investigation center in Norfolk this evening at approximately 1850. A short time later, the vehicle was seen exiting the gates with two other occupants. Andrew was spotted trying to dodge the crowd of waiting photographers.
The former prince, the first senior royal to be arrested in modern history, is accused of sharing sensitive information with Epstein while serving as Britain’s trade envoy.
In a statement, Thamed Valley Police said: “On Thursday (19/2) we arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
“The arrested man has been released pending investigation. We can also confirm that our searches in Norfolk have now concluded.”
Searches continue at his former address, Royal Lodge in Windsor.
His brother King said “the law must take its course” after expressing his “deepest concern” about the arrest, which followed the release of millions of files by the US Department of Justice in the Epstein scandal.
Andrew was detained on his 66th birthday on Thursday, following allegations against the former prince following the publication of millions of pages of files on pedophilia financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Responding to the arrest, the King said: “I have learned with deep concern of the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the suspicion of misconduct in public office.
“What will now come is a full, fair and appropriate process to ensure that this matter is investigated appropriately and by the relevant authorities.
“As I have said before on this matter, we have our full and wholehearted support and cooperation. Let me state clearly that the law must take its own course.” He added: “My family and I will continue our duty and service to all of you.”
The former Duke of York vehemently denies any wrongdoing regarding his Epstein connections.
Thames Valley Police previously said police were investigating allegations that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Jeffrey Epstein to have sex with Andrew and claimed she shared sensitive information with the pedophile while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.
