A 33-year-old former bodyguard shot dead his two sisters-in-law at his father-in-law’s house in Raipur on Tuesday night (May 5, 2026), police said. At first glance, repeated fights between the accused and his wife turned into an incident.
The accused, Jitendra Verma, shot his wife Khileshwari’s sisters, Geetanjali (26) and Durgeshwari (24), at their home around 21.30. The incident took place a few hours after Khileshwari had a fight with Verma and went to her maternal home along with the couple’s one-year-old daughter.
A police officer said Verma reached Khileshwari’s parents’ house, where he found the two victims and their mother and argued with his daughter over the request to meet her.
“He then took out his licensed pistol and fired a bullet which hit Geetanjali’s neck while she was trying to stop her. When Durgeshwari tried to run away, he shot at her from a distance. The bullet hit her head and then went out,” the police officer added.
The couple’s elderly mother, who was there, informed the police. A police team arrived at the scene and took the victims to a nearby hospital; According to the police, Geetanjali died during treatment here, while Durgeshwari passed away on Wednesday morning, May 6, 2026.
The officer added that Verma had obtained a licensed pistol from the authorities while working as a bouncer six years ago. He initially obtained a 12-gauge gun permit and received a licensed handgun in 2022. However, after a few years, he lost his job as a bouncer and began working as a plumber while continuing to work as a bouncer on a “freelance” basis.
The suspect was arrested and the murder weapon, a licensed gun, 2 magazines and a gun were seized.
Initial investigations revealed that there were frequent fights between Verma and his wife. He even verbally informed the police that he would harass and attack her while drunk, but did not file a formal complaint.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Mayank Gurjar stated that a murder case has been registered at Pandri police station and the accused has been arrested.
