Teen arrested after shooting incident leaves 16-year-old boy ‘fighting for his life’

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and is now fighting for his life following the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Sheffield on Monday.

South Yorkshire Police said the teenager was detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder.

Police responded to reports of a shooting on London Road at 5.15pm on Monday evening and the victim, who was found to have injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

Sheffield chief Martin Simcock said: “Gun crime and violent crime has no place in South Yorkshire and the fact that a young boy is fighting for his life is appalling and will not be tolerated.”

Police said there was a road closure on London Road, which has now been removed, while detectives, officers and forensic teams collected evidence and established circumstances.

They are asking anyone with information to come forward. “No matter how little you believe you have information, I would urge you to contact us, this could be the missing piece we need,” Mr Simcock said.

“This child and his family deserve answers, and we are committed to getting them.”

“I want to reassure residents that a dedicated team of officers and staff are working tirelessly to understand the circumstances leading to this attack and find those responsible. We need you to work with us and provide any information you have. This is unacceptable on our streets, so we must work together to stop it.”

Police are asking anyone with information to call 101 or contact them online, quoting incident number 640.
