An allegation that a convicted sex offender released from prison two weeks ago posed as a doctor and sexually assaulted a student at an Arizona elementary school has sparked outrage and calls for answers from parents, according to reports.

According to the Phoenix Police Department (PPD), 25-year-old Abel Kai Gblah is charged with sexual assault and kidnapping after he entered the school grounds at Orangewood Elementary School on Nov. 19, posed as a doctor to lure a student into the classroom and assaulted her.

PPD officials said in a statement to Fox News Digital that officers were called to the school after administrators reported an incident had occurred on campus.

“When officers arrived, they learned that an unauthorized man had entered the school grounds and pulled an elementary school-age girl into the classroom and sexually assaulted her,” police said. “At one point, the student was able to push the man away. He then fled the scene before police officers arrived.”

FOX 10 Phoenix reported Court documents allege that Gblah pretended to be a doctor, attracting the attention of a student and stating that he needed to examine her.

After escaping from school, police found Gblah, who was jailed on various charges.

According to media reports, Gblah was released from prison two weeks ago on similar charges and was also allegedly involved in human trafficking across the US border.

The prosecutor at Gblah’s trial said he was convicted twice in 2021 for sexual intercourse with a minor and a registered sex offender, FOX 10 reported.

The news station reported that the Washington Elementary School District said in a statement that the school administration immediately called 911 and quarantined the school for more than an hour.

“He remained on campus for approximately 10 minutes and engaged in inappropriate communication with a student during that time,” the district wrote.

The district shared a separate statement with Fox News Digital on Friday to parents that revealed the results of its internal investigation, including that Gblah was a former student of the school who attended from 2012 to 2015.

“We understand how concerning this situation is and want you to know that we are reviewing every aspect of our safety procedures and communications to ensure that an incident like this does not happen again,” Orangewood Elementary School Principal Emily Paterson wrote.

Gblah is being held on $500,000 cash-only bond with a preliminary hearing scheduled for Dec. 1, according to FOX 10.
