Saudi Arabia’s Rise, Europe’s Interest – Could They Be India’s Answer To U.S. Tariff Strike? | World News

Washington/Riyadh/Brussels: India’s trade relations with the United States entered a difficult stage. In Washington, Donald Trump’s management took action to apply 50% tariff to Indian goods by continuing the purchase of new Delhi’s discounted Russian oil. The decision points to a rise in a nervous partnership.
Diplomatic voltages are not limited to trade. America recently hosted Marshal Asim Munir, the Chief Pakistan Army, in the second place in two months. He issued a nuclear threat to India from the US territory and repeated the discourse he used before the expensive terrorist attack in Kashmir. These developments revealed new questions about the direction of the US-India ties.
Strategic experts believe that the new Delhi should expand their options. Foreign policy analyst Dr Nishikant Ojha, “India stands at a geopolitical intersection. The trust in the Western block no longer offers certainty. However, strategic opportunities based on practicality and mutual benefits emerge in Western Asia,” he said.
Europe has been a long -standing partner for India, but the approach hesitated. The European Union continues to associate trade agreements with political positions, including opposition to Russian oil imports, even when buying LNG from Moscow indirectly. He says that this reflects the complexity of the Western alliance.
Economic and strategic depth in the Gulf
The trade between India and the Gulf is now 161 billion dollars per year. Approximately 60% of Indian oil and 70% of the gas comes from this region. In the Gulf states, there are about nine million Indians and sends a $ 50 billion transfer per year, which is a source of stability for the Indian economy.
“The Gulf provides India a framework built on energy security, diaspora effect and a corridor -based connection,” he explains.
One of the most important projects in this vision is India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC). India aims to connect India through the UAE and Saudi Arabia and to Southern Europe to Israel Haifa Port, supported by countries such as Gulf partners, EU and France, Italy and Germany.
Italy emerges as a strategic partner in the plan. Europe, which is more dependent on the Gulf energy materials, sees it as an opportunity to strengthen economic and political connections, a tendency that India can handle.
‘Look at the West’ policy
The new Delhi deepens the interaction with West Asia under the strategy of ‘West’. Defense, trade and diaspora welfare are key columns. The Indian navy expanded its existence in the Gulf by holding air and sea exercises with the UAE and Oman.
Even after the Gaza conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar kept IMEEC alive with the Gulf leaders and continued to participate with the Gulf leaders.
However, difficulties continue. Houthi attacks on the Red Sea, the tensions between Israel and Iran and the lack of internal unity in the EU threaten the progression of the corridor. European countries also increase human rights concerns with India.
Dr. For OJHA, India should adopt a balanced approach that exports Brahmos missiles and warships to the Gulf Medices, maintains strategic participation with Israel for high-tech access and proceeds forward with Iran’s Chabahar Port and international north-south transport corridor.
While it serves as a bridge between Europe, the Gulf and Asia, strengthening ties with Europe, he says that he will strongly position India in a changing global order.
