One dead, teenager missing after boat flips on rocks north of Sydney

Acting NSW Police Superintendent Nicole Taylor said on Wednesday afternoon that the investigation into the “tragic boating incident” was in its early stages and police were unable to confirm any relationship between the trio.

Rod McGibbon, president of Surf Life Saving NSW Sydney Northern Beaches, said Palm Beach was being patrolled at the time and council lifeguards and volunteer lifeguards responded quickly and that was “one of the reasons we were able to rescue one of these people”.

“But the conditions today are great and obviously difficult conditions,” he said.

“New Year’s Eve is never a good time for something like this to happen.”
