Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Accuses BJP Of Targeting Congress Through False Cases To Hide Failures

Belagavi : Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday accused the BJP of indulging in “politics of hate” and abusing its power to target Congress leaders through fake cases to hide governance failures. He said the court’s dismissal of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) charge in the National Herald case reaffirmed justice.
He was speaking while participating in a protest along with Congress MLAs and MLCs near the Gandhi statue at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi in support of the court’s decision to dismiss the ED’s chargesheet in the case. The protest also aimed to condemn what it called abuse of power by the BJP-led Union government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Siddaramaiah said protests in support of the court’s order will continue both inside and outside the assembly and will intensify across the state and the country.
“Congress is not a party that will remain silent. Congress ensured the independence of the country, whereas BJP did not participate in the freedom struggle and is today indulging in divisive politics,” he alleged.
The Prime Minister said that the BJP resorted to such tactics to divert public attention from pressing issues such as rising inflation, rising unemployment and rising public debt.
“Arbitrary taxes are being imposed on the people and the country is being pushed towards becoming a debt-ridden nation,” he claimed.
Referring to the National Herald case, Siddaramaiah said Subramanian Swamy had filed the complaint in 2012.
“The court has now rejected the charge filed by the ED. The court has upheld justice by dismissing a fake case,” he said.
Further attacking the BJP, Siddaramaiah said that when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister, the country’s debt was around Rs 53.11 lakh crore, but it increased sharply during PM Modi’s tenure.
“In the 11 years since Modi came to power, the country’s debt has increased by Rs 148 million. To hide these failures, the BJP is taking refuge in fake cases,” he alleged.
Referring to Prime Minister Modi’s promises, Siddaramaiah said that the promises of creating two crore jobs every year and depositing Rs 15 lakh in the bank account of every citizen by bringing black money from abroad have not been fulfilled. He also noted the sharp increase in prices of essential commodities such as gasoline, diesel and cooking gas.
“To divert public attention from these failures, the BJP is giving undue emphasis on fake cases and misleading the people of the country,” he alleged.
The Prime Minister also attacked the BJP-led NDA government for focusing on renaming of programs and institutions.
“Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme has been renamed as VB-G RaM Yojana and Raj Bhavan has been renamed as Lok Bhavan. These are government properties and changing their names is not right. Instead of working for the welfare of the poor, the BJP is busy renaming the schemes,” he said.
He noted that the BJP has consistently opposed pro-poor programmes, the party has been against the guarantee schemes implemented by the Congress government in Karnataka, although similar welfare measures have been replicated elsewhere.
“BJP does not follow the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr BR Ambedkar. It ignores the poor, Dalits, backward classes and minorities,” he alleged.
