Nearly 1,000 Britons adopt permanently shorter working week after trial | Four-day week

Approximately 1,000 British workers will permanently adopt a shorter working week after the last attempt in a four -day week and similar changes in traditional working models.

All 17 British enterprises at a six -month hearing in a four -day week said that they would continue with an arrangement of four days a week or nine days in two weeks. All employees stayed in their salaries.

The hearing was organized by the Foundation of 4 Days, a group that campaigns for more businesses to take shorter working weeks.

The latest test follows a six -month pilot with approximately 3,000 employees in 2022, which ended in 56 out of 61 companies that reduce their hours from a five -day working week.

The 4 -day Week Foundation hopes to build on change at the beginning of the 20th century, at the end of the 19th century and at the end of the two -day weekend. For many people in the UK and other traditional Christian countries, it was a previous norm -day working week and only on Sunday.

Campaigns and some economists argue that the four -day week can benefit from workers such as less coercion on their mental health, and more motivated personnel and businesses, including easier recruitment and retention.

Researchers at Boston College, a US university, said that the findings obtained from the last hearing were “extremely positive için for the workers. According to a survey of 89 people, 62% of the workers experienced less burnout during the hearing. Forty -five percent of the respondents said they felt that they were more satisfied with life ”.

The Foundation of 4 Days has conducted consecutive trials to collect data and show that companies could switch. In January, the foundation said that more than 5,000 people started to work for a week for four days from a previous wave.

The companies participating in the last hearing that started in November included charities and professional service companies, the number of employees in each employer ranged from five to 400.

Campaigns hope that they can accelerate for change. 4 Days Week Foundation, the government should form a working time council to coordinate the policy between business and industrial leaders and unions.

The concept of four days of week faced a strong opposition from the previous conservative government. Although the ministers of the Labor have offered very little on the way to official recognition since they came to power in 2024, they have previously supported the concept before.

In 2023, Angela Rayner, who has been the Deputy Prime Minister since then, said: “If you can deliver it within a four -day working week, why not.

Brandpipe, a small web software company, said the last attempt was successful for the job and overlapping sales. Geoff Slaughter, General Manager of Brandpipe, said: “The trial was an overwhelming success because productivity was the launch ramp for us to think about what created, and the financial performance is twice as before.”

Slaughter added: “If we are going to see that it is presented more importantly among different sectors, there must be incentives for those who adopt early, because we create a plan for the future.”
