Pape Thiaw: Senegal manager given five-match ban after Afcon final chaos

Brahim Diaz’s Panenka penalty was saved by Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, and referee Jean-Jacques Ndala immediately blew the final whistle of the match.
Pape Gueye scored the winner in the fourth minute of extra time to seal a second Afcon victory for Senegal in five years.
Senegalese strikers Iliman Ndiaye and Sarr received two-match bans for “unsporting behavior towards referees”, while the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) was fined a total of $615,000 (£444,000).
Moroccan striker Ismael Saibari was given a three-match ban and a $100,000 (£72,000) fine, while defender Hakimi was given a two-match ban and one match suspended for 12 months.
The proposal of the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to cancel the match result after the Senegalese players left the field was rejected by Caf’s disciplinary committee.
The bans on Thiaw and four other players relate only to Caf matches and will not affect World Cup preparations in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
