Aria Thorpe’s family share photos after girl, 9, stabbed to death | UK | News

The heartbroken family of a “sassy, fun-loving” nine-year-old girl who was stabbed to death at home has shared pictures of the schoolgirl. Aria Thorpe was found dead in Weston-super-Mare on Monday night and police confirmed she had suffered a single stab wound. A 15-year-old boy was later arrested and charged with murder, officers added.

The young girl’s family has now shared her photos; one with a pink dress and crown, the other with Minnie Mouse ears. Aria celebrated her ninth birthday just two weeks ago, and she marked the occasion with a KPop Demon Hunters-themed party.

Her friends described her as a “sassy, fun-loving, dress-up girl.”

Family friend and neighbor Tamara Taylor said her daughter Mollie was “Aria’s best friend.”

She said: “Aria was a spoiled little girl who loved dressing up and putting on make-up. Mollie and Aria did everything together away from school and what happened is so heartbreaking.

“Aria was always here playing with Mollie. They were inseparable. I don’t know how we’re going to tell her she’ll never see her again.”

The teenager accused of Aria’s murder appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court today for a hearing. He was sent to a youth detention home ahead of his hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Friday.

Inspector Jen Appleford said: “This continues to be an incredibly difficult time for Aria’s family, who we continue to support and update on our investigation.

“It is impossible to adequately describe how traumatic the past 36 hours have been for them and we would like to reiterate their request for confidentiality in the strongest possible terms.

“The tragic loss of such a young girl has caused great shock and sadness and left the community with a deep sense of loss.

“We are working closely with partner organizations and schools in the Weston area to ensure those affected can access any support they need.”
