The event began with a photo and video montage of her childhood with her famous parents, actress Judy Garland and film director father Vincente Minnelli.

Video quickly reached its heyday, winning a best actress Oscar for Cabaret in 1972, dancing with Bob Fosse, and partying at Studio 54 with a cast of her famous friends. The event concluded with a tribute to Minnelli’s advocacy for HIV/AIDS research and her influence on dance, theater and popular culture.

The dancers then took to the stage with Fosse-like precision as the Wilkommen Cabaret song echoed through the 2,000-seat theatre. As the dancers left and opened a large curtain covering the stage, Minnelli suddenly appeared, smiling and sitting in the director’s chair.

Minnelli’s flashy statement, in which she recently revealed in her memoir that she felt “sabotaged” during her 2022 Oscar appearance with Lady Gaga, was monumental.

Minnelli said in her book that she was humiliated after it was claimed that she was forced to go on stage with Gaga in a wheelchair instead of sitting in the director’s chair as she wanted.

Minnelli wrote: ‘When a few words came to my mind, Gaga, who was by my side, didn’t miss a beat to portray the good-hearted hero for all the world to see. “I’ve got you,” he said, leaning over me.’

Feinstein asked Minnelli if she wanted “something special” for her milestone 80th birthday, and she responded by giggling loudly. He then turned to his nephew and said confusingly, ‘To you?!’ he said.

“Everyone in this audience is going to be like, ‘Uh-huh,'” Minnelli responded to the audience’s confusion.

The audiobook recordings showed a bright and cheerful Minnelli; his voice was steady and unshakable. But it was in sharp contrast to the Minnelli that audiences saw on stage last night, as the singer was unable to complete her thoughts.
