SP MPs Poised to Break Away from Party: Maurya

New Delhi/Lucknow: Following Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar, his NDA counterpart and Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Thursday reiterated that the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party was heading towards a split. SP’s Shivpal Singh Yadav also hit back and said Mr. Maurya could not even win his seat but was talking about offending SP MPs.”

Deputy CM of Uttar Pradesh claimed that “around 26 Samajwadi Party MPs are ready to quit their party”. Mr. Maurya maintained that the BJP was not involved; SP MPs are personally planning the division.

My Yadav took a swipe at Mr Maurya and said: “He could not even win the seat and was defeated time and time again by Samajwadi Party leaders. Now he is talking about breaking the SP MPs.”

Mr Rajbhar had on Wednesday signaled a major political restructuring within the SP. Later in the day, Mr. Maurya also repeated the claim while addressing a press conference in Lucknow. The SP chairman dismissed the allegations.

On Thursday, Mr Rajbhar repeated his claims and said a split in the SP was inevitable and suggested that the SP president should focus on retaining MPs.

“Everyone has been asking since yesterday: Is a split coming in the SP? Well, listen to this! A son of the ‘rebel land’ of Uttar Pradesh will lead the dissident group of SP MPs,” Rajbhar added in his post on

“The plan was already in place, but yesterday’s incident added oil to the fire. The split will definitely happen,” the SBSP chairman added.

Following Mr Rajbhar’s statement, SP leader and Balia MP Sanatan Pandey rejected his claim and said that he would not leave his party and “no force can separate him from socialism and SP”.
