Prime Minister Narendra Modi is at the G20 Summit.

While addressing the IBSA Leaders Meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged nations to unite against terrorism and suggested institutionalized meetings at the NSA level. During the recent terrorist attacks in the country, Prime Minister Modi said that there could be no room for double standards in such a matter. “We must work in close coordination in the fight against terrorism. There can be no room for double standards on such a grave issue. For the sake of global peace and prosperity, united and decisive action is essential. The first meeting of the NSAs of the three countries was held in 2021 under India’s chairmanship of IBSA. We can institutionalize this to strengthen security cooperation.”

He said IBSA connects three continents and three major economies, thus being a vital platform in promoting unity, cooperation and humanity, offering a message of hope in a fragmented world. “IBSA is not just a three-country forum; it is a vital platform connecting three continents, three great democratic powers and three important economies. It is also a deep and enduring partnership based on our diversity, common values and common aspirations,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi noted that the summit was timely. He talked about the important initiatives taken by G20 countries over the years. “Today’s IBSA Leaders Meeting is both historic and timely. This first G20 Summit on the African continent marks the culmination of four successive G20 presidencies led by countries of the Global South. Over the past three years, three IBSA countries have chaired the G20. In these three summits, we have taken many important initiatives on common priorities, including people-centered development, multilateral reform and sustainable growth. It is now our collective responsibility to strengthen these initiatives and increase their impact. In this spirit, we make a few proposals for our cooperation “I want it,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the need for reform, citing the UN Security Council as an example, and called on IBSA to send a common message on this issue. “First of all, we agree that global institutions do not reflect the realities of the 21st century. None of us are permanent members of the UN Security Council. This clearly shows that global institutions no longer represent today’s world. Therefore, IBSA needs to send a unified message to the world: institutional reform is not an option, but a privilege,” he said.

It has proposed several initiatives, including the IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance and the IBSA Fund for Climate Resilient Agriculture. “Technology plays a vital role in advancing people-centered development. IBSA can take a leading role in emerging technologies, especially in the areas of Digital Public Infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence. In this context, we may consider establishing an “IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance”, where Digital Public Infrastructure such as UPI, health platforms such as CoWIN, cybersecurity frameworks and women-led technology initiatives can be shared across the three countries. This will accelerate the growth of our digital economies and create scalable solutions. Together we will reach the Global South with safe, reliable and we can contribute to establishing human-centric AI norms, which could be launched at the AI Impact Summit in India next year,” he said.

He emphasized IBSA’s potential to contribute to global prosperity, citing examples such as millet promotion, natural agriculture and green energy. “For sustainable growth, IBSA can not only complement each other’s development efforts, but also set an example to the world. Whether it is the promotion of millet and natural agriculture, disaster resilience and green energy, or traditional medicine and health security, by combining our strengths in these areas, we can contribute meaningfully to global prosperity,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi noted that IBSA Fund has helped implement 50 projects in 40 countries. The project focuses on education, health, women empowerment etc. Contains topics. “The IBSA Fund was created with this vision. With its support, we have implemented nearly fifty projects in forty countries. These initiatives, ranging from education to health, from women’s empowerment to solar energy, have been shaped in line with the needs of local communities. To further strengthen this spirit of cooperation, we may consider establishing an IBSA Fund for Climate Resilient Agriculture,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi said that while today’s world seems divided, IBSA can teach a lesson about humanity. “Today’s world seems fragmented and divided on many fronts. At such a time, IBSA can offer a message of unity, cooperation and humanity. This is both our responsibility and strength as three democratic nations,” he said.
