Two teenagers killed in a motorbike crash in Wales have been named locally. Jaydon Bowyer, 19, and Ta-Shay Canoville, 16, were killed when they were struck by a BMW while riding a motorcycle in Newport in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 7. Heartbroken loved ones described the pair as “best friends”.
Emergency services were called to Aberthaw Road in Alway at around 1am on Thursday following reports of a collision between a motorbike and a BMW, which then allegedly fled the scene. Tragically, both young men were pronounced dead at the scene.

An 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder, while a 24-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of aiding an offender.
Friends and family have paid their heartfelt tribute to the pair and a GoFundMe page set up to support their family has already raised more than £12,000. Flowers left at the scene read “fly high kids” and “be at ease”.
Dozens of mourners also gathered for a balloon release in memory of Jaydon and Ta-Shay near the crash site over the weekend.
A friend said: “This is such a huge tragedy and they were such good friends. Everyone knew them and our hearts are shattered.”
Jaydon’s mother, Sophie Pederson, wrote on social media that she was “struggling to process the loss of you, my firstborn, my entire world, my everything.”
She said: “My son, my darling son. Why, why. How can I live without you here by my side. You were the best child ever. Everyone adored you. Millions love you always and forever, your heartbroken mother.”
On Sunday, Ta-Shay’s father’s league team, Odsal Rangers, observed a minute’s silence before kick-off and wore armbands as a sign of respect. Never miss a Newport story by subscribing to our newsletter here
“Although we are only at the beginning of this journey, we stand together and will support Carl in any way we can during these incredibly difficult times,” the team shared on their Facebook page.
Both teenagers are believed to be from the Alway and Ringland areas of Newport. They have not been officially named by police. The fundraising appeal for the two families has already raised over £12,000 and a target of £16,000 has been set to cover funeral costs.
A Gwent Police spokesman previously said: “Gwent Police officers investigating a report of a road traffic accident on Aberthaw Road, Newport, are appealing for witnesses.
“The collision reportedly involved a BMW car and a motorcycle; the BMW is believed to have left the scene before police arrived.
“It was determined by paramedics that two men, the driver of the motorcycle and the rear passenger, died at the scene. Specially trained police officers will be assigned to support the families throughout the investigation.
“Anyone with information, including CCTV and dashcam footage, is asked to contact us using log reference 2600141467.”
