Bus Carrying IRGC Forces Attacked In Iran’s Southern Tehran | World News

Protesters set fire to a bus full of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) personnel in Tehran’s Naziabad neighborhood late Monday night, escalating ongoing anti-government demonstrations amid economic unrest and calls for reform.

According to the information obtained, an explosive material hit the bus in the Naziabad region, south of Tehran, where the government sent reinforcements. The incident follows weeks of unrest sparked by fuel price increases, power outages and economic woes.

More than a dozen people have died in clashes in cities between protesters and security forces as anger over a falling currency turned violent and some demanded a return to the monarchy. Anti-Khamenei protests have intensified since late December 2025, with demonstrators chanting “Death to Khamenei” in Tehran’s neighborhoods such as Naziabad and cities such as Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad and Qeshm. Security forces in the area responded with tear gas, live bullets and internet blackouts.

Earlier, speaking on Air Force One, US President Donald Trump warned Iran: The US is watching “very closely” and added: “If they start killing people like they have in the past, they will be hit very hard.” “If Iran violently kills peaceful protesters, as is their tradition, the United States will come to their rescue. We are locked, loaded, and ready to go,” he posted on Truth Social. “Iranian officials responded and labeled US bases as potential targets.”

Iran, on the other hand, called on the UN Security Council to condemn US President Donald Trump’s “illegal threats” against Tehran due to the ongoing protests.

In response to rising tensions in Iran, India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a travel advisory on January 5, urging citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Iran amid the unrest.

As protests escalate, international observers such as the United Nations are calling for restraint. UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern about Iran’s protests on January 4, calling on authorities to prevent further loss of life and to support the rights to freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly.
