Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was ejected from the game against the Utah Jazz on Saturday, marking his 24th career ejection and 22nd regular season ejection. This was also his second shutout in the last eight games.

The penalty was awarded after Green defended against Utah’s Kyle Filipowski; Kyle Filipowski gestured to a nearby referee who called for a three-second violation against Green. Green screamed angrily after the Jazz scored and received a technical foul.

After the whistle, Green approached referee Kevin Cutler and loudly berated the referee. Immediately following this antics, a second technical foul was called and Green left the game.

Green’s teammates and coach Steve Kerr defended the player, who was frequently sent off after the game.

“I didn’t hear what he said, but it happened so fast,” Kerr told reporters. “I know he took the T right away and then Kevin (Cutler) threw it right away. So I don’t know what he said, but I assume it was something Kevin wasn’t going to listen to. So I don’t know any more about it than that.”

Kerr added that the team “needs” Green on the field.

“We need Draymond and I want him there,” Kerr said. “So I think he might need nine coaches. We’re not halfway through the season yet, so we still have a long way to go and we need him.”

Warriors superstar Steph Curry suggested Green’s actions did not warrant a dismissal.

“I don’t know what he said to the referee,” Curry said. “But I didn’t think so; the consensus in the dressing room was there weren’t enough points to warrant being sent out.”
