Heard Biden Fed picks signed by autopen

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump claimed that he had “just heard” that all four of former President Joe Biden’s appointments to the Federal Reserve had been approved by “autopen”, suggesting that they were not authorized to serve in these roles.
Trump provided no evidence for the claim; This reinforces his predecessor’s repeated claims that all documents signed using automatic signatures are invalid.
But he said he thought it was “something we should look into.” He suggested that the automatically signed list of appointees could also include Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, who has faced near-constant criticism from Trump for his handling of the central bank and U.S. interest rate levels.
For months, Trump repeatedly pressured Powell and the Fed to lower interest rates, berating them when they failed to follow his orders. The Fed cut interest rates in September and then again in October. Trump’s comments came on the eve of a meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets the Fed’s interest rates. The Fed is expected to cut interest rates for the third time on Wednesday.
Trump appointed Powell as Fed chairman during his first term as president. Biden reappointed Powell in 2021. Powell’s term is scheduled to end in May.
Three more current members Fed Board of Governors -Vice President Philip Jefferson, Governor Michael Barr and Governor Lisa Cook – Biden appointees.
The automated comments came during a campaign-style speech in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, where Trump went to talk about the economy and counter Democrats’ messaging about the affordability crisis in the United States.
“By the way, it looks like — you’ll have to check this, please — I just heard that all four commissioners at the Fed may have signed off on by Biden… I heard the auto pen may have signed off on those commissions,” Trump said.
Trump included criticism of Powell among his accusations, sarcastically calling her “Too Late” and claiming: JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon had called on the central bank governor to lower interest rates.
Trump said, “But I heard that Otopen may have signed these commissions. If they signed these commissions, now maybe I’m wrong, but we’ll check.”
He then addressed a member of his administration and asked: “Have you checked this? Do you hear? Who signed it? Did he sign it, or did he sign it with an automatic pen?”
“So I don’t know. I think it’s something we need to look into,” Trump said. “They’re putting people there who don’t have the authority to be there.”
Trump then asked, “Can you check this, Scott?” he said. He appears to be referring to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
“Because I’m hearing that the automatic pen may have signed all four, maybe several,” Trump said.
“We’ll take two,” he added.
