Nuclear stocks surge after Army launches program to deploy small reactors

Nuclear stockpiles rose on Wednesday after the US Army launched a program to deploy small reactors.

The U.S. Army on Tuesday launched a program to build micronuclear reactors in partnership with the Defense Innovation Agency. The microreactors will be owned and operated commercially to help developers grow their businesses, according to the military.

The military launched the “Janus Program” in response to President Donald Trump’s May executive orders aimed at accelerating the deployment of advanced reactors. Trump directed the Department of Defense to establish an operating reactor at a local military facility no later than September 30, 2028.
Investors are speculating heavily on the future of NuScale, Oklo and Nano Nuclear, even though neither company has yet deployed reactors. Oklo and Nano Nuclear have not yet generated any revenue. NuScale generated $8 million in revenue in the second quarter.
