BC Associations Call Chalo Delhi for 50% OBC Quota in Assemblies, Parliament

Hyderabad: National BC Welfare Association announced a ‘Chalo Delhi’ program to demand 50 per cent reservation for the Backward Classes (BCs) community in all state assemblies and Lok Sabha elections on December 10.

Rajya Sabha member and president of the association R. Krishnaiah said the protest will begin with a series of national seminars in which large delegations from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Odisha along with professors, intellectuals, eight Union ministers and 20 MPs from various parties will participate.

Krishnaiah welcomed the BJP-led Central government’s decision to include caste census in the upcoming census and termed it as a historic first in India’s 76 years of independence. He said the 75 billion-plus BC will finally secure population-based shares in the political, economic, social, education and employment sectors, promising revolutionary social change.

Post the census, the association has envisaged landmark measures like 50 per cent legislative quota, a special BC ministry at the Centre, improved education and job reservations. The demands include BC Bill in Parliament, Rs 2 lakh crore development fund, promotional quotas, removal of creamy layer, 50 per cent industrial policy quota, judicial reservations, private sector quotas and filling of 16 lakh central vacancies through constitutional amendments. Telangana BC community leaders like Neel Venkatesh, Anuradha Goud and others attended the meeting.
