UK sanctions two Iraqi men over Islamic State funding

The UK government has imposed sanctions on two Iraqi men, describing them as key financial agents of the Islamic State (ISIS) who were instrumental in managing the group’s revenue streams and strengthening its leadership structure.
The government announced on Friday that Sami Casim Muhammad Jaata al-Jaburi and Abdulhamid Salim Ibrahim Brukan al-Khatouni were added to the sanctions list due to their involvement in the management of the terrorist organization’s funds.
According to the official announcement, Sami Casim Muhammad Jaata al-Jaburi was closely involved in controlling ISIS’s finances and participated in “several terrorist operations” during the group’s control of the region.
He was also involved in the illegal smuggling of petroleum products.
The statement confirmed that the second person sanctioned, Abd al-Hamid Salim Ibrahim Brukan al-Khatuni, served as the financial official of the Islamic State.
Both men will have their assets immediately frozen, an arms embargo imposed and a travel ban imposed. Their names are also included in the INTERPOL-UN Security Council Special Notification system.
