Warning to parents after alleged attempted abduction in front of Sydney primary school

Parents at a primary school on Sydney’s Upper North Shore are alarmed after a student was allegedly kidnapped while walking home from school on Monday.

Police say a primary school student was walking home from Warrawee Public School about 3.15pm on Monday when he was approached by two older boys driving a silver or white sedan.

They allege the car, which may have had red P plates, parked on Campbell Drive and approached the student.

Allegedly, two young people tried to drag the student into the car.

The student, who luckily managed to escape, informed his family.

In an email sent to parents Tuesday, public school principal Meriki Barnes urged extra caution when traveling to and from school.

They advised parents and guardians to pick up their children directly from the school gate.

“Please consider your child’s method of transportation to and from school to ensure they remain as safe as possible,” the email read.

Parents at the school were “quite concerned” about their children’s ongoing safety walking to school.

“We really want our son to be independent but it’s quite scary,” one father told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“It’s worrying because a lot of kids walk home this way and there’s quite a lot of traffic, so it’s quite brazen to do this.”

NSW Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Anyone with CCTV, mobile phone or dashcam footage of the vehicle on the streets around Campbell Drive Wahroonga, Roland Ave, Lucinda Ave South, Rothwell Rd, Mitchell Crescent and Fox Valley Way is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
