Food safety raids at Hyderabad bakery, brewery uncover expired food, pest infestation, hygiene violations

Food safety inspections conducted by the Telangana Food Safety department at a bakery and brewery in Hyderabad’s Nagole area on Wednesday (May 20) revealed serious hygiene and food safety violations; authorities found pest infestations, expired food products and suspected reuse of cooking oil at two businesses.

According to a press note issued by the department, inspections at Urban Monk Fine Dine and Baking in LB Nagar and Meld Haus brewery in Nagole revealed several violations. Authorities found expired and mislabeled food products, improper food storage practices, poor hygiene conditions and suspected repeated use of cooking oil at the facility.

In a separate inspection in Karimnagar, authorities found serious violations at Ganesh Bangalore Bakery in Subhash Nagar. Food Safety officers found 750 damaged eggs, smelly and infested with black flies. Authorities also threw away 20 kg of cakes suspected to have been prepared using spoiled eggs.

The ministry said, “Expired and spoiled food items and cooking oils suspected to have been reused were thrown to the scene during inspections, application samples were collected from organizations and sent for laboratory analysis.”

They also added that necessary procedures have been initiated against the relevant Food Business Operators within the scope of the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Law.
