Govt. to take over Krishna Iyer’s residence to set up legal research centre: Minister

The State government has decided to take over ‘Sadgamaya’, the residence of former Supreme Court judge VR Krishna Iyer, for setting up a legal research and study centre, Law Minister P. Rajeeve said on Saturday (March 14). A decision on this issue was taken at the Cabinet meeting on Friday, March 13, he said in a Facebook post.
Mr. Rajeev said the memorial and research center was planned to recognize Krishna Iyer’s unique contributions both as a Supreme Court judge and a member of Kerala’s first Cabinet.
He added that the center will become a platform of international importance for legal studies and research.
The minister also recalled the jurist’s strong anti-war views as well as his interventions in various public issues, including issues related to the Kochi metro and Cochin Cancer Research Centre.
