CM Fadnavis assures strict action, says, ‘No one will…’

Strict action will be taken against those culpable in the suicide of a woman doctor at the Sub-District Hospital in Satara, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday. However, the CM added that “politicizing such a sensitive issue is very insensitive”. “This is a very serious problem. A young doctor wrote the suicide note on his hand before committing suicide. This is a very unfortunate situation and the government took immediate action and suspended the police officers concerned and arrests are also being made,” Fadnavis told reporters. he said. “No one will be spared. Strict measures will be taken… It is very insensitive to politicize such a sensitive issue.”
Meanwhile, Satara Police arrested Prashant Bankar, one of the two accused in the case. Speaking to reporters, Satara Superintendent of Police (SP) Tushar Doshi said: “Police have arrested Prashant Bankar, one of the two accused in the suicide case of a woman doctor in Phaltan taluka. He will be produced in court today. The other accused, Sub-Inspector of Police Gopal Badne, is still absconding and search efforts are on to nab him.”
Earlier, SP Doshi said: “A woman doctor committed suicide. A note was found in her palm, in which the names of two people, including a police officer, were written. A case was registered against these people on charges of rape and abetment to suicide. The accused PSI has been suspended from duty. Our teams are trying to locate the two accused. A thorough investigation and stringent measures will be taken.” The woman doctor died by suicide in Satara on Friday, leaving a note in her palm with the name of a police officer and two others, officials said.
The victim’s cousin claimed he was subjected to political pressure regarding his job. “She was under police and political pressure to give a wrong autopsy report. She tried to file a complaint about it. My sister must get justice,” her cousin told news agency ANI. Another cousin demanded severe punishment for those involved. “The defendant should receive the heaviest punishment,” he said. The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) also condemned the doctor’s death and called for an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident.
