Free speech in Australia under threat from powerful actors

It seems certain that bad decisions are made in the wake of terrorist atrocities. Like other countries, Australia has witnessed many events in the last quarter century. Terrible wars are being started. Freedoms are being undermined. Societies are denigrated. Intelligence and enforcement agencies are being enriched and strengthened despite repeated failures. Individuals are caught up in security bureaucracies and torn apart. But no matter what, governments always have more power, no matter how much their failures contributed to the initial brutality; no matter how much their bad decisions contribute to the perpetuation and often strengthening of the terrorism they promise to eliminate.
