Three auto drivers who climbed a mobile tower during protests over CNG and LPG shortage in Hyderabad were detained, leading to tense scenes and heavy police deployment on Sunday night (March 29, 2026).
The incident took place near Column No. 294 on PVNR Express Road in Shivarampally Jagir; A group of auto drivers here staged a road protest, claiming that fuel shortages were seriously affecting their livelihoods. Despite repeated assurances from the state government about adequate supply, drivers said they stood in queues for hours without success.
According to police, two drivers climbed atop a nearby cell tower as part of the protest, causing huge tension at the scene. A large number of police personnel have been deployed to manage the situation and ensure security. The three were later taken down safely and taken into custody.
The protests took place amid reports of panicked refueling across the city, leading to long queues of up to 1 to 2 kilometers at various fuel stations, especially in residential areas. They demanded that the authorities ensure immediate and adequate supply of CNG to prevent further disruptions.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad police have issued a traffic alert stating that traffic congestion has been observed along the PVNR Highway near Column No. 294 from Aramghar towards Mehdipatnam due to the protest. Travelers were advised to avoid traffic and use alternative routes.
