Majorca panic over tour-guide bookings as anti-tourism actions bite | World | News

Tour guide reservations fell in Mayorka this summer. Last year, the Union of Tour Guides Biel Rosales said there were 40 to 45 groups, but this summer fell to 25 or 30. It comes after protests against extreme tourism on the island.
He said: “Anti-Turist demonstrations, especially in Palma caused a lot of damage and in May to damage the Palace of Almudaa Vandalism gave a very bad publicity. People if you think twice about reservation. Leave reservations.”
“The general number has fallen. The majority among the Germans and the British customers, but last year, we noticed a significant decline in Americans, a very developing market.
“Trump’s tariff policies may have influenced travel decisions. On the other hand, there are more Canadians and French.”
Rosales questioned why the town hall did not do road works in winter.
“Workers who had to deal with high temperatures and also would be better for tourism. We don’t understand why it was done in the most intense season.”
However, the town hall postponed the implementation of the new civil regulation to limit the number of people in the tour groups of Rosales.
He said: “It would be harmful to reduce the number with the season, because many trips have already been sold.
“At first, they wanted to limit us to 19 people per guide, this is a ridiculous number, but now 35 seems to be a more logical number.”
The loss of cruise ships was also accused of a decline in the business world. The Tour Guides Association has historically opposed to reducing the number of maximum travel per day.
Rosales said: “The image of the humanitarian drama of small boats may have the results. We know that they should be looked at, but given the size of Palma Port, we do not think it is the best thing to serve them at the cruise Ship Arrival terminal.”
