Ashton Kutcher and Selma Blair lead heartbroken stars paying tribute to Eric Dane as actor dies age 53 after ALS battle

Eric Dane’s famous friends and former castmates are deeply saddened by his death at the age of 53; Ashton Kutcher and Selma Blair paid an emotional tribute to the late actor.

The Euphoria star’s death was confirmed in a statement by loved ones on Thursday, less than a year after she announced her amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis.

During his Hollywood career, Dane has starred in Grey’s Anatomy as Dr. He became known for numerous roles, including his portrayal of Mark Sloan (also known as McSteamy).

Shortly after learning the devastating news of Dane’s passing, Kutcher took to X and wrote: ‘Franklin strip fans fantasy football league will miss Mr. Eric Dane.

‘We know you will watch from the stand. I miss you buddy. Let’s keep fighting to solve ALS.’

Kutcher and Dane previously starred together in the 2010 romantic comedy film Valentine’s Day.

Shortly after learning the devastating news of Dane’s passing, Kutcher took to X and wrote: ‘Franklin strip fans fantasy football league will miss Mr. Eric Dane.’

On her Instagram stories, Blair reposted a clip from @eric_dane_fan showing her and Dane on Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane.

The actor, who currently struggles with multiple sclerosis (MS), wrote: ‘I love you’ in the text added to the top of the reel. And yours.’

Nina Dobrev shared a message on her Instagram stories along with a behind-the-scenes look at Dane. The duo previously worked on the 2022 film Redeeming Love.

She wrote: ‘Heartbroken to hear of Eric’s passing. He was warm, generous, prepared, and very passionate about what he did.

‘He led with grace and made everyone on our set feel seen. ALS is a cruel and unforgiving disease.’

The Vampire Diaries alum added: ‘Hopefully her memory inspires further research, awareness and progress towards treatment. He will be missed very much. ‘I send my love and sincere condolences to his family.’

Sam Levinson, creator of the HBO Max series Euphoria, also broke his silence about the late star’s death. Dane played the role of Cal Jacobs in the series.

‘We are saddened to share that Eric Dane passed away on Thursday afternoon after a courageous battle with ALS,’ his family said in a statement on Thursday.

‘He spent his final days surrounded by his dear friends, his devoted wife and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.’

They added: ‘Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research and was determined to make a difference to others facing the same struggle.

‘He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered with love. Eric adored his fans and will forever be grateful for the love and support shown him. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.’

The award-winning actor is survived by his two daughters, Billie Beatrice, 15, Georgia Geraldine, 13, and his wife Rebecca Gayheart.

ALS is a nervous system disease that ‘affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord’ and can ’cause loss of muscle control.’ Mayo Clinic.

Dane announced his diagnosis of the disease in April last year.

Just a few months later in June, he lost the function of his right arm and hand. By October he was in a wheelchair.
