This summer, tourists entering two of the most popular Greek islands were slapped at an unexpected expense. Visiting Mykonos and Santorini was a little more expensive after entering a new ‘Sustainable Tourism Fees’ set this week.

Cruise companies or representatives are responsible for announcement of accrued fees through a special digital platform, which will have to pay Quarterl

If the cruise company does not pay the money, the port officials may prohibit the call of the cruise ship to the Greek islands and the descent of tourists.

However, the new tax has led to anger from the port officials of Mykonos, who did not meet the change.

Mikonos Port Fund President Athanasios Kousathanas-Megas condemned the tax as harmful to the local economy. “I believe that the price difference will be a problem in choosing a passenger ship from 2026,” the Greek correspondent.
