Assam allots 25 acres for TTD’s first Lord Venkateswara temple in Northeast

In a significant boost to the moral support of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), the Assam government has agreed in principle to allocate 25 acres of land for the construction of a Lord Venkateswara temple in Guwahati; this was a major step towards establishing the first such temple in Northeast India. The decision came after a series of consultations between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The extent of the land was increased from the initially proposed 10.8 acres after concerns were raised about clashing with an existing temple and cultural complex in the Kamrup Metropolitan area. In a letter dated December 18, Mr. Naidu urged the Assam government to allocate land in Guwahati, citing the city’s strategic importance as the gateway to the Northeast. He also reminded that Andhra Pradesh had earlier allocated 25 acres of land in Amaravati for a similar temple.

Responding positively, the Assam government also agreed to provide financial support to the project. Thanking both the prime ministers, TTD Chairman BR Naidu said that the necessary formalities will be completed soon and the construction of Lord Venkateswara temple will begin at the earliest.
