Jawan Held for Killing Wife, Setting House on Fire
Bhubaneswar: In a shocking case in Koraput, police arrested a jawan for allegedly killing his wife and trying to pass off the crime as an accident by setting fire to her house. The incident took place at OMP Colony in Koraput town, where the woman’s half-burnt body was found earlier this week.
The accused has been identified as Shiv Shankar Patra, jawan officer of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB). According to police, Shiv confessed to killing his wife Priyanka Panda after a heated argument on the night of October 8.
Allegedly, in a fit of rage, he hit Priyanka’s head with an iron bar, rendering her unconscious. Instead of seeking medical help, Shiv reportedly tried to cover up the crime by opening the gas pipe, setting the house on fire, and leaving the scene.
A few minutes later, Shiv noticed smoke rising from the house and returned with his neighbors, pretending to save his wife. Fire crews arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames but found Priyanka’s half-charred body inside.
After a detailed investigation, Koraput District Police uncovered evidence indicating murder and detained the suspect. During interrogation, Shiv is said to have confessed to the crime.
