Investigative journalism is a stupid thing to do these days. Outside of a handful of key roles at large, legacy media organizations, they are under-resourced and under-supported. It’s also time-consuming and fraught with financial danger, thanks to our libel laws. Complex or difficult stories may attract broad audiences, but often do not; hence it is difficult to justify this from an economic perspective; clickbait is cheaper and travel or food inferences are much more lucrative.
