Sir Arthur Cotton’s contribution to Godavari Delta recalled on 223rd birth anniversary

Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh on Friday recalled Sir Arthur Cotton’s contribution to the development of the Godavari Delta through the irrigation system, including the Dowleswaram anicut, which spans the length and breadth of the Godavari river.

Mr. Durgesh gifted flowers to the statue of Sir Arthur Cotton on the occasion of his 223rd birth anniversary, which was celebrated in the Godavari delta on Friday. The construction of Dowleswaram anicut started in 1847 and was completed in 1852.

Forming part of the Central and Western Delta regions, Dr. BR Ambedkar Farmers in Konaseema district offered floral gifts to the statues of Sir Arthur Cotton in their villages, remembering his services to the region.
