Perplexity plans IPO in 2028, ‘agnostic’ of OpenAI, Anthropic’s listings, says CEO Aravind Srinivas: Report
Artificial intelligence (AI) player Perplexity aims to complete its initial public offering in 2028, regardless of how rivals Anthropic and OpenAI fare on their respective IPOs, Aravind Srinivas, CEO, told CNBC on June 9 (today).
Notably, OpenAI filed its confidential IPO on June 8, following Anthropic’s move last week. Additionally, according to the report, billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX is also working on a listing to be held on Friday, June 12.
This was also confirmed to Reuters by Perplexity’s Chief Operating Officer Dmitry Shevelenko. “Perplexity has been able to build a healthy, high-growth business by consistently holding 2028 as our earliest date for an IPO,” he said in an emailed statement.
‘Of course there will be a ripple effect’
“I think there will definitely be ripple effects if they don’t do well, just like there’s no sugar coating on this. SpaceX’s IPO this week will definitely be a leading indicator of how Anthropic or OpenAI will come out,” Srinivas told the channel on Tuesday.
“I think it’s important for the AI industry that these IPOs do well, and I actually think they’ll do well, because they’re doing well,” he said, but added that the AI company is “planning something for 2028” and is “agnostic” to how Anthropic or OpenAI listings perform.
Multi-model vision — What does this mean?
Meanwhile, speaking about his company’s vision for AI operating systems at Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s opening session at COMPUTEX 2026, Srinivas outlined the “Astonishment Computer” that aims to coordinate multiple AI models, tools and files while balancing privacy, cost and performance.
Launched in February this year as a system that can use up to 20 AI models and orchestrate tasks across different tools and files, it said it “creates a team of agents, orchestrates across models, tools and files into a single system.”
The event was organized by the Taiwan External Trade Promotion Council, and Srinivas’ remarks come as the AI industry focuses more on personal devices and continues to use data centers for more compute-intensive tasks.

- It runs Opus 4.6 for the core reasoning engine and organizes subagents with models best for specific tasks: Gemini for deep search (creating subagents), Nano Banana for images, Veo 3.1 for video, Grok for speed on light tasks, and ChatGPT 5.2 for long context recall and wide search.
- The “model-agnostic harness” will allow AI models to adjust its selection as it progresses, and users who want to select specific models for specific subtasks will be able to do so.
