Air India cancels New York, Newark flights for Feb 23 due to severe winter storm warning | India News

Air India said in a statement that it has canceled all flights to and from New York and Newark in the US scheduled for February 23 following forecasts of severe winter storms on the US East Coast on Sunday.
The airline announced that heavy snowfall in New York, New Jersey and surrounding areas on February 22-23 could cause major flight disruptions, which could lead to precautionary cancellations.
While Air India issued a travel advisory, it stated that the decision was taken keeping the safety and security of passengers and crew in mind.

The airline’s statement reads: “In view of the safety, welfare and comfort of our passengers and crew, all Air India flights to and from New York and Newark have been canceled on February 23. If you book to fly with us on this date, our dedicated teams will offer you every assistance.”
The airlines also assured that designated teams will assist affected passengers with rebooking and other travel support.
The airline said it implemented proactive measures to mitigate disruptions from Sunday to Monday, allowing customers to adjust travel plans without any changes to fares.
To ensure the safety of passengers and staff, Delta confirmed flight cancellations at several major East Coast airports, including hubs in Boston (BOS), John F Kennedy (JFK) in New York, and LaGuardia (LGA).
Snowstorm warning issued for the East Coast of the USA
Meanwhile, a Blizzard warning has been issued for New York and part of the East Coast, including parts of New Jersey and Connecticut, amid forecasts of severe to strong storms expected to affect much of the East Coast.
Snow and storm warnings remain in effect from the Mid-Atlantic to the Northeast, with heavy snowfall and strong winds expected between Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, according to the National Weather Service.
Up to 1.5 feet (46 cm) of snow is forecast to fall in and around New York City, marking the city’s first blizzard warning since 2017.
The official also warned that heavy snowfall and strong winds could trigger coastal flooding, hazardous travel conditions and widespread power outages.
