In its latest long-term forecast, the Met Office says variable conditions are likely to be seen across the UK in the period between 23 October and 6 November.

According to the forecaster, low pressure will tend to “prevail”, adding: “Occasional showers or longer periods of rain are likely, perhaps heavy at times. Temperatures are likely to be near normal.”

Netweather’s forecast for October 20-26 says temperatures will be about a degree below the long-term average in most places.

It will be near or slightly above normal along the North Sea coast, where winds will blow from the warm North Sea.

The forecaster adds: “Rainfall is likely to be near normal in the south and east of England, with below normal expected in western Scotland and north-west England.

“Sunshine totals are likely to be well above normal in western Scotland and north-west England, but below normal in the south of England.”

The nights will be foggy and cool at times. Daytime temperatures will be close to normal.
