Speaker Birla cautions ministers, members against long chats in House chamber

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday (April 2, 2026) warned Union Ministers and MPs against making long speeches in the House while hearings are on and warned that he will name them in the future.
As soon as Zero Hour began at 12 noon, Mr. Birla said he saw members and ministers talking to each other for half an hour during the Assembly proceedings.

He said short and important conversations are allowed, but long conversations are not. “I will name you in the future… It is important to protect the reputation of the parliament,” he said.
If the president names a member, it is considered a warning.
Earlier, during Question Hour, the Speaker had warned Independent MP Pappu Yadav not to talk to a fellow member while returning to the Speaker. He said a senior member like him should desist from such behavior.
