Japan trails China on energy security as we hand over fossil fuels

Against the backdrop of this year’s COP climate change talks in Brazil, local events have highlighted Australia’s ongoing credibility challenges as a promising host.
At a purely local level, the federal government will not want to disrupt the Coalition. Errors limit climate sensitivity for future election winning strategy. But international actors continue to provide Labor with unhelpful facilitation on its climate ambitions, led by a Japanese government beholden to its own fossil fuel interests.
