American woman advertises for a Scottish husband after Tartan Army wooed the US during World Cup
Many love seekers are now turning to dating apps and sifting through seemingly endless potential suitors.
But an American looking for the right man browsed the back pages of a local newspaper 3,500 miles away.
Andrea Raymer of Jacksonville, North Carolina, leafed through the Oban Times to find the Highland man of her dreams.
The 32-year-old bachelor, who fell in love with Scotland during a holiday and wooed her during the Tartan Army’s invasion of the state, has urged all eligible singles to get in touch.
Her ‘respectable marriage notice’ seeks to ‘correspond with a suitable Scottish gentleman in the sincere hope of a lasting commitment’.
The person must be ‘of good character, between the ages of 30 and 45, well-mannered and sincerely intentioned’. But he warned: ‘Meaningless correspondence need not be valid.’
And if she finds Mr Right to herself on the other side of the Atlantic, the announcement read: ‘It is her intention, upon a suitable match, to proceed to Scotland and embrace his way of life with sincerity and enthusiasm.’
The idea came about when a friend signed him up to receive letters telling a fictional story, along with the letter he received about a woman and a marriage ad who responded before going on an adventure.

The 32-year-old bachelor, who fell in love with Scotland during a holiday and was courted by the Tartan Army during their invasion of the state, has urged all eligible bachelors to get in touch.
But it was the Tartan Army’s time in the United States for the World Cup; They won Boston’s heart during this trip, which led to her calling for a personal statement.
Miss Raymer said: ‘I’ve been loosely following the news about the Cup and I saw how women in Boston were saying they were having sex with Scottish men and joking about it and I think I might put an advert in there and see if it works for me.’
Ms Raymer said she made the advert to her sister Angela, 44, and “thought it was completely crazy”.
But the single woman said: ‘He knows I have a pretty desperate, romantic mind. “I don’t think he expected anything to happen.”
‘I thought even if nothing came of it, it would at least make a great story. Maybe at best I can meet someone special.
‘It was definitely a leap out of my comfort zone, but I decided life was too short not to try something unconventional.
‘I guess I was looking for something more meaningful than endless scrolling.’
But he has already received an email response to the advert, which appears in the personal notices section on page 37 of this week’s Oban Times.
In the statement, he described himself as having a ‘modest build, naturally curly hair, fair skin and blue eyes, and was known for his gentle disposition and steady disposition’.
It was Tartan Army’s time in the United States for the World Cup, which caused him to make the call to self-report.

He added: ‘He enjoys tea, art and quiet evenings by the fireside and dreams of a simple life: a stone cottage, a well-tended garden and a peaceful home.’
Ms Raymer said: ‘I would love to meet someone who is kind, trustworthy and emotionally mature; With someone with a good sense of humor who enjoys the quieter things in life.
‘Someone who values nature, who values compassion and devotion, and who would be as happy spending an evening talking over a cup of tea as going on an adventure.
‘I think a lot of people are looking for a real connection and maybe that’s the whole point of this ad.
‘At its core, this is a hopeful attempt to find someone with whom I can share a happy and peaceful life.’
She fell in love with Scotland after touring the British Isles on a cruise for her 30th birthday. Even the weather.
The American said: ‘I actually love rain and that’s why I always prefer it to rain. And anyone with a great accent is nice.’
